TOPIC: Is the site chat room always empty?

Is the site chat room always empty? 1 year, 9 months ago #31211

The couple of times I have gone there, totally deserted.

Just wondering.

I didn't even know there was one. Guess you need to make a post indicating you're there for anyone to show up.

I didn't know of this either, I do like the idea of one.

The link to it is in the above bar. I shall venture there now, and see if anyone else shows up

This Chat Room is NOT user friendly. All I get is a feedback message when I try to send something...

"You must be connected to send a message"

It recognizes that I'm on there...what this "connected" issue?

GRrrrrrrrrr

I do not get any error messages but also no responses from either you, or Bass_Bug. Did you even see my messages?

Hans,

I see you and I see Bass Bug.

I can type and send on the Fly Fishing and I was able to send one on General Chat (once), but then back to the same ol' error message.

Also, where I should be typing has a run through of yours and mine's names/messages.

It's irritaing to use the Chat Room.

Hmmm? I don't remember ever seeing that

We had a few scheduled chat nights about a year ago. What we did was pick some topics, and ask folk on here to 'host' them. That offer stands for anyone. If there's anything particular that someone wants to focus on, send me a PM and I'll help coordinate it. What we did was pick a day/time a week or so in advance and give people a chance to to be available.

Of course there's always 'open topic chats as well.

The difficult part is, that we have user all over the world in almost every time zone. So a good time for the West caost US members is usually not good for European and Asian members.

If there's interest I'm more than willing to help promote the chat room again.

Roger,

All I know is that 1. I am in the chat room now, and 2. have been hailing you the both times you entered, without getting a response back from you.

Did you even see me posting?

I finally found the tab. It's on the uppermost tool bar.

Sorry, step away from the computer and didn't make it back until now.

One other tip for the chat room; it's best to open up a second browser window or tab, if you want to jump back and forth from the forum to chat room.

For those that have been checking out the chat room, in case you didn't notice, there are 3 tabs for 3 different simultaneous chat sessions. "General", "Fly Tying", and "Fly Fishing"

With 2 tabs open, the Tab title will show a new chat post if you're on another tab.

This was a feature that I really had high hopes for, but it seemed that the majority here just wasn't interested.

One great way to develop a thriving chatroom is to have a few hosted or themed evening chat sessions. Something like, say a rotating discussion for an hour at a given time on Tuesday evening. Sometimes it could be a member doing a step-by-step, or just a hosted discussion about your favorite warmwater leader, or even a simple knowledge that, hey, its Tuesday night, the chat will be full!

Just something to get people to participate. Once the core users here are in the habit of going to chat, there will be more times that 2-6 people are in there, and the more likely someone is to sign in, see that nobody else is on, and just hang out, just in case.
